CNN host called out for trying to blame Donald Trump for the economy
The stock market has been a selloff as President Donald Trump tries to secure fair trade deals and cut the country’s addiction to government spending.
“There is a period of transition because what we’re doing is very big. We’re bringing wealth back to America,” Trump told Fox News about the economy. “That’s a big thing . . . it takes a little time, but I think it should be great for us.”
Former President Joe Biden famously boasted that he was worried about Main Street, not what Wall Street and the stock market were doing.
Democrats and their media allies have been ramping up their attacks on Trump over the economy.
They saw the sluggish economy cripple Biden’s Presidency and they’re trying to return the favor.
CNN host Kate Bolduan tried to blame Trump for the economy during an interview with Representative Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY).
“Given the uncertainty that President Trump’s tariff approach is creating and given that tariffs often prove inflationary, Donald Trump was asked over the weekend about a possible recession happening this year,” Bolduan said. “He was not 100% confident that he could stave off a recession in 2025.”
Trump told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo that he hated to predict something like that.
“If that is the risk that he is running with this kind of whiplash and environment of business uncertainty while prices go up, is that a risk you think is worth it?” Bolduan asked.
Malliotakis wasn’t going to let Trump, who’s been in office for less than two months, take the blame for the economy.
“Well, there’s been talk about a recession for well over the past year,” Malliotakis replied. “This is something that has been a threat going back to the Biden Administration. We were anticipating some type of recession and slow, slow growth.”
The economy was stagnant for four years under Biden after he unleashed the worst inflation in 40 years.

Malliotakis pointed out that Biden’s reckless spending and war on American energy production delivered a punch in the gut to the economy.
“Why? Because of a lot of the inflationary spending, a lot of the dismantling of energy policy in this country that really drove up the cost of doing business, I think,” Malliotakis explained. “And also the regulations that the Biden Administration have put in place. So I think that we have a real opportunity here to stop the recession that was supposed to be coming for the past year.”
Bolduan jumped in to blame any potential recession on Trump.
CNN claimed that the economy and inflation were out of Biden’s control when he was President.
“You can’t disregard the damage that the Biden Administration did to our economy with their regulations, with their inflationary spending, with the interest rates that have skyrocketed because of his policies,” Malliotakis said. “You can’t negate that.”
The New York lawmaker reminded Bolduan that Trump has just taken office.
“You got to remember, President Trump has already brought in $2 trillion in private investment. He’s only been in office for a month,” Malliotakis stated. “Every other week, we’re hearing about a new company that is repatriating, manufacturing or expanding operations here in the United States, whether it’s a foreign entity or a domestic company like Apple.”
CNN wants to hammer Donald Trump on the economy because it thinks that’s the winning ticket to driving his popularity down.
