The disarray in the Democrat Party isn’t getting solved any time soon.
It looks like a long stay in the wilderness for the Left.
A top Democrat just left the party in this shocking announcement.
Key Texas Democrat joins the Republican Party
Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina announced he was leaving the Democrat Party to join the GOP.
“After much thought, prayer, and conversations with my family and friends, I have made the decision to switch to the Republican party,” Tijerina posted on X.
Tijerina wrote that the Democrat Party’s woke, socialist agenda offended him, and he wanted to join a political party that better reflected his values.
“Our shared values here in South Texas — hard work, faith, family, and freedom — are no longer pillars in the Democrat party and I want to be part of a party that stands and protects those principles,” Tijerina continued.
Tijerina’s defection was part of the broader realignment underway in American politics as Latino voters continue to drift right.
Donald Trump won 55 percent of the Hispanic vote as well as 14 of the 18 counties along the Texas border.
Tijerina cited these political shifts as evidence of Latino voters rejecting the increasingly radical Democrat Party as well as the appeal of Donald Trump’s common sense MAGA agenda.
“Republicans made major gains in South Texas, including Donald Trump winning my county — not because our values have changed, but because the Radical Democrat Party’s values did. I will continue to fight for what matters most in our community by supporting our oil and gas industry, securing our border, and keeping faith and family at the center of everything we do. I am committed to continuing to build a bright future for all South Texans,” Tijerina concluded.
Tijerina represents Laredo, Texas.
Laredo saw a more than 50-point shift to the Right from Trump’s run in 2016 as Trump flipped the city in 2024.
Trump won the Texas border counties because he supported a crackdown on illegal immigration.
Border counties in Texas bore the brunt of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris smuggling more than 10,000,000 illegal aliens in the United States of America.
These results flew in the face of the conventional wisdom of the Beltway media and their allies in the Democrat Party, which held that all Latinos cared about was amnesty for illegal aliens, and that Trump was a racist for demanding a secure border.
Trump’s win showed Democrats made one of the costliest political blunders of all time by buying into the idea that what Latino’s really wanted was open borders and mass illegal immigration.
But Laredo also offers a word of warning to Republicans that Trump’s base isn’t yet transferable to other Republicans.
While Laredo voted for Trump, the city went Democrat in the House and Senate elections.
If establishment Republicans try to treat Trump like an aberration and take the party back to the days of Mitt Romey, Liz Cheney, and John McCain, they will flush these gains down the toilet and Democrats will immediately turn into the majority party overnight.
