It wasn’t just Republicans that couldn’t wait for Joe Biden to leave office.
Democrats were right there with them counting down the minutes until Biden’s term ended.
And now a former ally turned on Joe Biden after this final betrayal.
David Axelrod slams Joe Biden’s preemptive pardons
Joe Biden ended his disgrace of a Presidency by preemptively pardoning his family members.
“My family has been subjected to unrelenting attacks and threats, motivated solely by a desire to hurt me—the worst kind of partisan politics. Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe these attacks will end,” the order announcing the pardons began.
Biden then announced the pardon of his sister, his brothers, and their spouses.
“That is why I am exercising my power under the Constitution to pardon James B. Biden, Sara Jones Biden, Valerie Biden Owens, John T. Owens, and Francis W. Biden,” the order added.
These pardons became public knowledge with ten minutes left in Biden’s term in office.
On his Hacks of Tap podcast, former Barack Obama chief strategist and current CNN commentator David Axelrod slammed the preemptive pardons of Biden’s family members as “egregious.”
“That was egregious,” Axelrod stated. “That 10 minutes before the inauguration, they announced that he’s pardoned members of his family.”
Axelrod explained Biden should have ‘manned up’ and issued the pardons well ahead of time so it didn’t look like he was covering up crimes by his family on the way out the door.
But what really upset Axelrod was the fact that Democrats couldn’t make a bigger deal out of Trump’s January 6 pardons because of Biden’s obvious abuse of power.
“I mean, man up! You know what I mean? Man up, and if you’re gonna do it, do it, but don’t do it literally as you have one foot out the door so you don’t have to explain it or be accountable for it, and what they did was they gave Trump a gift because it fuzzied up the story, the J6 story for him, and you heard him last night,” Axelrod added.
Just to add insult to injury, Axelrod made the most damning possible comparison for a Democrat, likening Biden to Trump.
Donald Trump’s reaction
“Could you end a presidency as badly as he has? I mean, Trump did,” Axelrod concluded.
For years Republicans slammed the “Biden crime family” for their corruption.
The media claimed this was all a conspiracy.
But pardons carry a connotation of guilt.
And Donald Trump told reporters he was shocked Biden issued the pardons because it made him and his family look very guilty.
“I was surprised that President Biden would go and pardon his whole family because that makes him look very guilty,” Trump began.
Trump noted that he never took such a step when he was President, saying the media would hammer him with stories saying the pardons confirmed Trump and his family members must be guilty of something.
“You know, I could have pardoned my family. I could have pardoned myself, my family. I said, ‘If I do that, it’s going to make me look very guilty.’ I don’t think I’d be sitting here, frankly. If I did that, I don’t think I’d be sitting here right now because I would’ve– It would’ve shown that you’re guilty,” Trump added.
Trump finished up by saying this was a horrible move by Biden – and not just for him and his family because of the appearance of guilt – but because of the precedent it set.
“So I was a little bit surprised that he did it, ’cause it makes him look guilty. I mean, he’s gonna have to live with that. Now, with that being said, it’s unbelievable precedent it creates for a president,” Trump concluded.
