Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made one awful mistake that landed her in hot water

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez loves to get her name in the headlines.

This time she ended up in them for the wrong reason.

And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made one awful mistake that landed her in hot water.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez faces a complaint over misusing taxpayer money

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is no stranger to controversy.

This time, she found herself slapped with an ethics complaint over questionable expenses she paid with taxpayer money.

Americans for Public Trust, a government watchdog group, sent a letter to the Office of Congressional Ethics about “several troubling expenses” that Ocasio-Cortez listed on expense reports.

The group alleges her expenses are “in contravention of federal law and the standards of the House of Representatives.”

Members of Congress receive a Member Representational Allowance (MRA) to pay expenses related to running their offices and conducting official duties.

Using the money to pay for personal, campaign, or political expenses is expressly prohibited.

Ocasio-Cortez is accused of using her MRA for campaigning.

She listed a payment on an expense report for $3,700 to “Juan D Gonzalez” and $850 to “Bombazo Dance Co Inc.”

These payments were listed on the report as being for “training.”

Ocasio-Cortez allegedly paid for dance lessons on the taxpayers’ dime

The outspoken Congresswoman denied any wrongdoing and claimed the payments were part of her federal campaign finance filings.

“100% wrong,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X. “None of this is taxpayer money, this is an FEC filing. Be loud and wrong about something else. Try again next time.”

Americans for Public Trust argued that she was trying to fool the public.

“[Ocasio-Cortez’s] assertion that these expenses are ‘an FEC filing,’ and not reflective of her MRA – as well as her claim that ‘[n]one of this is taxpayer money’ – is both troubling and obviously incorrect,” Americans for Public Trust stated.

“Either she does not know the difference between her campaign funds and MRA, or, more likely, she knows the highlighted expenses were not for official business and should have been paid by her campaign and reported to the FEC,” Americans for Public Trust added.

Americans for Public Trust executive director Caitlin Sutherland told Fox News that Ocasio-Cortez should be investigated by the Congressional Ethics Office.

“Representative Ocasio-Cortez’s troubling payments from her taxpayer funded account for activities such as dance classes should be investigated,” Sutherland said. “In the era of reining in government spending, the American people deserve to know lawmakers are being good stewards of their tax dollars.”

Bombazo Dance is a nonprofit based in the Bronx, New York, that teaches and promotes Caribbean dance.

It’s unclear what “training” the group could provide that would be related to an official duty carried out by Ocasio-Cortez.

This isn’t the first time that Ocasio-Cortez has been in hot water with the Congressional Ethics Office.

She faced an ethics investigation for an “impermissible gift” in 2023 when she was provided a designer dress that said “Tax the Rich” that she wore to the 2021 Met Gala.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez excels at getting attention but it’s not always the good kind.
