Tom Homan was ready for war after this scary news from the border

Feb 28, 2025

The southern border was in chaos under Joe Biden.

Change is proving to be harder than anyone realized.

And Tom Homan was ready for war after this scary news from the border.

Texas rancher killed by an IED on the Mexican side of the border

Former President Joe Biden ceded control of the southern border to the Mexican drug cartels.

The cartels were able to massively expand their drug smuggling and human trafficking businesses after he opened the border.

President Donald Trump has stemmed the flow of illegal aliens into the country, but the danger remains in the border region.

74-year-old Texas rancher Antonio Cespedes Saldierna was killed when he drove over an improvised explosive device (IED) on the Mexican side of the border.

His ranch ran on both sides of the border.

One other person was killed and a third person was injured from the IED.

Authorities suspect that IED was planted by the cartels.

The incident happened after President Donald Trump issued an executive order that designated the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

Saldierna was in Tamaulipas, Mexico, on the other side of the border from Brownsville, Texas.

Threat at the southern border grows

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller urged ranchers working near the border to take precautions.

“I encourage everyone in the agricultural industry to stay vigilant, remain aware of their surroundings, and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement,” Miller said. “Additionally, you can avoid dirt roads and remote areas, refrain from touching unfamiliar objects that could be explosive devices, limit travel to daylight hours, stay on main roads, and avoid cartel-controlled regions.”

Mexican police said that cartels are using IEDs to protect their turf from rival factions.

Ramiro Cespedes, Saldierna’s son, said that he encountered IEDs when he served in the Army in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He was stunned about what was happening at the southern border.

“I’m sad, I’m confused, I’m in shock,” Cespedes said. “I consider this a terrorist attack because if I went to war to fight terrorists, and I’m seeing the same thing here to me – my personal opinion – it is a terrorist attack.”

This became the latest incident of violence near the southern border.

Border Patrol agents were shot at from the Mexican side of the border by suspected cartel members in Starr County, Texas.

The agents returned fire, which sent the gunmen fleeing.

No one was injured in the incident.

An internal Border Patrol memo warned that the cartels had bragged on social media about using drones loaded with explosives for suicide attacks against agents.

Border Czar Tom Homan predicted that cartels would push back at Trump securing the border in January.

“They’ve taken gunfire, and it’s going to get worse, Sean, because President Trump’s going to seal that border. He’s going to put the cartels out of business. He declared them a terrorist organization,” Homan told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “We got the whole government is going to dismantle these people and wipe them off the face of the earth. They’re not going to go lightly.”

“We’re taking them out of the trafficking business,” Homan added. “We’re taking them out of the smuggling business, and we’re taking them out of the dope business. There’s going to be more violence on the southwest border.”

Danger is still lurking at the southern border despite it becoming more secure under Donald Trump.
