Stephen A. Smith calls out Democrats for being hypocrites on democracy
One reason Democrats lost so badly in 2024 was the fact that the American people saw their false claims of being defenders of democracy.
It was difficult for voters to swallow Kamala Harris’ argument that Americans needed to vote for her as President to preserve democracy when Kamala Harris won the Democrat Party nomination without anyone casting a single vote for her.
A cabal of party insiders handpicked Kamala after Joe Biden dropped out of the race.
This was a point ESPN host Stephen A. Smith hammered home on his podcast when he offered his explanation of where the Democrat Party went wrong.
Smith said the Democrats kept losing to Donald Trump because the party kept trying to handpick establishment anointed candidates.
Barack Obama won two terms, Smith argued, because Democrats ran a real Primary in 2008 and let the voters choose.
“Y’all are too busy trying to pick candidates for the American people instead of listening to the American people tell you who they want. The last Democrat that the American people told you they wanted was Barack Obama,” Smith began.
But after Obama, Democrats started handing the nomination based on whose turn it was, starting in 2016 when Democrats rigged the Primary so Hillary could defeat Bernie Sanders.
Democrats then rigged the Primary against Sanders in 2020 after Sanders won contests in New Hampshire and Nevada to elevate Joe Biden to the nomination.
“Hillary Clinton, it’s her turn. Bernie Sanders had momentum — but it’s Hillary’s turn. Joe Biden captured momentum because representative Clyburn got involved in South Carolina, saved his behind, but it’s really, really his turn,” Smith added.
Smith argued the same desire to avoid a Primary caused Biden to run again in 2024 when everyone knew he was senile, and once Biden dropped out of the race, muscle memory set in as Democrat Party bigwigs eschewed a Primary and named Kamala Harris as Biden’s replacement.
“Okay. He has no business running for reelection, but everybody went for it. Knowing he was supposed to be transitioning. He’s going to be 81 years of age. Then you sit up there. He doesn’t have a primary. Then he goes on the debate stage, embarrasses himself. Then y’all still let him take three damn weeks to walk away instead of getting the hell out there immediately,” Smith continued.
Smith then lamented that party bosses picked Kamala and then made everyone pretend she was a generational talent and the second coming of Barack Obama even though her 2020 Presidential campaign collapsed into such failure that she dropped out before even one vote was cast.
“So you can see if there’s somebody other than Kamala Harris who could be the democratic nominee. Then she gets the nomination and everybody wants to act like she’s the rock star. All of y’all wanted all along. Oh my God, let’s throw up our hands and just to say, Hey, she is the one when you know, good and damn well, that wasn’t the truth,” Smith concluded.
Democrats knew Kamala Harris couldn’t win.
Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi both wanted an open process to pick a nominee because both knew Kamala was a weak candidate.
But Smith said that to their eternal shame they kept their doubts to themselves because they were afraid to buck the Democrat Party’s preference to oppose holding open Primaries.
