Homeland Security asked to investigate taxpayer-funded groups aiding illegal aliens
Former President Joe Biden used taxpayer-funded non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to help with the influx of illegal aliens into the country during his border crisis.
Biden’s Department of Homeland Security gave taxpayer money to NGOs that transported and cared for illegal aliens once they crossed the border.
Groups like the Red Cross were providing instructions in Latin America for migrants on the journey to the southern border and how to cross the southern border illegally.
Representative Lance Gooden (R-TX) asked Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to investigate taxpayer-funded NGOs that are facilitating illegal immigration.
“Not only are NGOs knowingly assisting criminal aliens violating our immigration laws, but they are operating a human smuggling campaign on the backs of U.S. taxpayers,” Gooden wrote in a letter.
“This unchecked collusion between federal agencies and NGOs was allowed to thrive under President Biden and is one of the most egregious examples of the previous administration’s destructive border policies and mishandling of taxpayer dollars,” Gooden added.
Gooden’s letter pointed out that Homeland Security, the State Department, and the Department of Health and Human Services wasted billions of taxpayer dollars every year by providing grants to NGOs that used the money to fund gift cards, hotel rooms, and plane and bus tickets for illegal aliens.
Joe Biden used taxpayer money to fund illegal immigration
The Texas lawmaker pointed out that the Biden administration hijacked the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to fund illegal immigration.
“For example, FEMA alone awarded at least $2.4 billion to illegal migrants through shelter and services programs from 2021-2024. These NGOs, often charitable or religious organizations, then lobby the administration and Congress to keep the border open, representing an alarming conflict of interest,” Gooden stated.
Noem placed a freeze on funding from Homeland Security to NGOs, but that’s only a temporary solution to the problem.
Gooden and U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) introduced bills to cut off NGOs that are aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
The Fixing Exemptions for Networks Choosing to Enable Illegal Migration (Fence) Act by Hagerty would strip nonprofit organizations of their tax-exempt status if they’re engaged in helping illegal aliens.
Gooden introduced the Protecting Federal Funds from Human Trafficking and Smuggling Act, which would prohibit federal grants and contracts from being awarded to NGOs unless the Office of Management and Budget signs off that they haven’t been involved in human trafficking and smuggling.
NGOs would lose their tax-exempt status if they deliberately break the law.
“For years, non-governmental organizations have exploited taxpayer dollars to facilitate illegal immigration under the guise of ‘humanitarian aid,’” Gooden said in a statement. “The exploitation of the American taxpayer will end under the Trump Administration. This bill ensures that not a single cent of hard-earned American tax dollars will fund organizations complicit in human trafficking and illegal border crossings.”
Congressional Republicans are trying to end the scam of taxpayer money being used to incentivize illegal immigration.
