Pope Francis owns one book of secrets that confirmed Mel Gibson’s worst fear

Pope Francis is the controversial leader of the Catholic Church.

Conservatives like Mel Gibson distrust Francis’ leadership.

And now Pope Francis owns one book of secrets that confirmed Mel Gibson’s worst fear.

Pope Francis comes into possession of the Vatican’s book of secrets

88-year-old Pope Francis released Hope: The Autobiography.

The book was supposed to come out after his death.

But the Pontiff changed his mind. One of the jaw dropping stories in the book came when Francis described how his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, turned over the Vatican’s book of secrets, which contains sordid details of the child sex abuse scandal as well as financial corruption.

“I have arrived this far, taken these actions, removed these people, now it’s your turn,” Franics said Benedict told him.

Benedict resigned the Papacy in 2013, the first time the Pope resigned while still alive since Pope Gregory XII in 1415.

In his tenure, which began in 2005, Pope Benedict faced intense criticism over the cover up of priests sexually abusing altar boys.

There was speculation at the time that Pope Benedict was forced to resign because of the scandal.

Benedict ended up passing away in 2022.

“I have continued along his path,” Francis wrote.

Francis claimed that combatting the sex abuse scandal was one of his top priorities as Pontiff.

“From the very start of my papacy [in 2013], I felt I was being called to take responsibility for all the evil committed by certain priests, who were many in number,” Francis added.

Francis said it was up to the church to make amends for the pain caused by pedophiles in the priesthood.

“With shame and repentance, the Church must seek pardon for the terrible damage that those clergy have caused with their sexual abuse of children,” Francis added.

Francis admitting he possessed secret documents detailing the church’s knowledge of sexual abuse by priests comes after Mel Gibson’s appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast, where Gibson accused Francis of covering up sexual misconduct scandals involving former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.

“Uh, you know, when they appoint some cardinal and some diocese, and he’s been covering up for, like, people who were child molesters, yes, you know, like Theodore McCarrick, or Cardinal world, or those kinds of guys… Well, he was covering up. But, like, yeah, so is the guy now, is he really? Well, yeah, yeah, it’s not great,” Gibson stated.

McCarrick served as the Archbishop of Newark and then Washington until a 2018 New York Times story detailed how McCarrick sexually abused seminary students from the 1980s to the 2000s.

Francis denied knowing about the scandal.

But critics such as Gibson and Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano contend Francis was well aware of McCarrick’s wrongdoing.

The admission by Francis that he possessed the Vatican’s trove of secret documents detailing the Church’s knowledge of sexual abuse cases will only confirm those suspicions.
