Gutfeld’s Kat Timpf Shares Sad News After the Most Devastating Year of Her Life

May 18, 2026

Kat Timpf beat cancer, became a mother, and held her family together – and then the unthinkable happened.

Now the Gutfeld! fan favorite is asking for prayers after the loss that broke her.

And the last thing her son did before it happened was help his grandfather push a suitcase to the car.

The Man Who Drove Through the Night

Daniel "Dad Timpf" Timpf died very unexpectedly on the evening of May 7.

He was 69 years old.

He had appeared healthy and strong in the days before his death.

No cause has been disclosed.

To understand why this is so crushing, you have to know what Daniel Timpf did in February 2025.

Fifteen hours before Kat went into labor with her first child, doctors told her she had breast cancer.

Her father heard the news, got in his car in Michigan, and started driving to New York.

He made it through the tunnel just as his grandson was born – on Daniel's own birthday.

That is the kind of man he was.

Kat described him as her rock, her hero, and her best friend – loyal, funny, kind, selfless, hard-working, and somehow knowledgeable on everything from world history to literature to accounting.

He was a writer, a painter, a sailor.

She wrote that as long as she had his phone number, there was no problem she couldn't solve.

A Family That Has Already Lost Too Much

This is not Kat's first catastrophic loss.

Her mother, Anne Marie, died from a rare disease in 2014 – just weeks after her diagnosis.

Kat was in her twenties.

She rebuilt.

She built a career, a marriage, a brand that millions of conservatives follow.

Then came February 2025 – the cancer diagnosis, the birth, the double mastectomy, the reconstructive surgery – and through all of it, Daniel Timpf was there.

He drove from Michigan every time they needed him.

He helped care for his grandson during Kat's surgeries.

He showed up on FaceTime every morning and every bedtime.

"It was an awful, awful year," Kat wrote, "but I found so much joy and hope throughout it by watching the beauty of a very special relationship form between my son and my father."

That grandfather-grandson bond – built during the hardest chapter of Kat's life – was what she was counting on.

They had plans.

She saw her father the Monday before he died.

Her son proudly helped his grandfather push his suitcase to the car as he left.

The goodbyes were quick – they were all supposed to meet again in June, heading to Texas for Kat's shows, to see her 93-year-old grandfather.

Instead, she got a phone call from a doctor she had never met, in an emergency room, telling her that her father was gone.

"It would turn out that last year was not the hard one, after all," she wrote.

The Fox News Family Is Rallying Around Her

The outpouring has been immediate and genuine.

Former White House press secretary Dana Perino wrote: "This is a shock. He adored you. He was a great man."

Fox & Friends newsreader Carly Shimkus said: "Oh Kat, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Love you always and forever."

Sage Steele – who had personally talked with Kat about the loss of her mother in 2024 – posted that this is "just unimaginable" after everything Kat has already been through.

Guy Benson wrote simply: "Kat, just gutted for you and your whole family. No words suffice."

The people who watch her every night on Gutfeld! know exactly who she is – sharp, funny, relentlessly honest – and right now she is none of those things.

Right now she is a daughter who lost her father, a mother trying to explain to a 15-month-old boy why Grandpa isn't on FaceTime anymore.

In lieu of flowers, Kat asked that supporters donate to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center – where she received her cancer treatment – through her sister Julia's marathon fundraiser.

She closed her statement with a request that her audience do something kind for someone today.

"I am currently living an unimaginable horror," she wrote. "For many people, this is a tragic story. For me, it's my life."

Please keep Kat Timpf and her family in your prayers.
